A SPOONFUL OF SHERMAN

INTRODUCTION

Subtitled "The Songbook of Your Childhood", A Spoonful of Sherman is a musical revue created by Robert J. Sherman which celebrates three generations of his songwriting family’s century-long musical journey.

Currently about to embark on its premiere UK/Ireland tour, Robbie Sherman wrote, produced and emceed the show for three London productions which occurred between 2014-2017.  Those productions were at the St. James Theatre (now called The Other Palace) and Live at Zédel.  The first production also served as the UK book launch for Robbie's father's (posthumously released) autobiography: Moose: Chapters From My Life, for which Robbie was also the book's editor. Songs in the show come from the music libraries of Al Sherman, The Sherman Brothers and Robbie Sherman.

The (2-CD) Original London Cast Recording of A Spoonful of Sherman was produced by Nick Lloyd Webber and is for sale on iTunes and Amazon.

SYNOPSIS

SYNOPSIS

Celebrating nearly 100 years songwriting history and the Sherman family music, A Spoonful of Sherman includes songs by the Sherman Brothers, as well as their father, Al Sherman, and Robbie Sherman.

Robbie narrates the show, giving the audience insights into the songs and the people behind them.

In the early twentieth century, Al Sherman was one of the most sought-after songwriters on New York's Tin Pan Alley, with songs recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Al Jolson, Bing Crosby, amongst others.

Al’s sons, Robert B. and Richard Sherman, were the most successful song-writing partnership in the history of Hollywood, composing more movie musical songs and acclaimed film scores than any other writing team. Their Oscar-winning songs from films such as Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Jungle Book, The Aristocats and The Slipper and The Rose have entertained the world for more than 60 years.

Robbie Sherman has picked up the baton for the third generation and celebrates his family's legacy in this show.

REVIEWS

The Times - ★★★★

“A show that strings together one joyous hit after another, delivered by a first-rate quartet of singers.”

West End Wilma - ★★★★★

"The audience were on the edge of their seats yearning for more."

UK Theatre Web - ★★★★★

“It really was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Riffs and mash-ups on Winnie The Pooh, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins and a smashing Al Sherman Medley made the evening all too short, all too few songs, all the more memorable. I feel privileged to have been there. A truly scrumptious smorgasbord of smash hits by the Sherman Brothers.”

Remotegoat - ★★★★★

"Supercalifragilistic-expialidocious! An evening of magic and delight."

Jonathan Baz  - ★★★★

“It is a wonder that this charming show has not been staged before. Amidst all of Broadway’s giant songwriting partnerships, none reaches out to the child within us quite like the legacy of the Sherman Brothers. Cleverly crafted songs that speak of hope against adversity, written in verses that talk to every age. This show deserves to tour and when it comes to your town, don’t miss it!”

The Stage – Mark Shenton

"There’s plenty to both surprise and delight here."

Edward Seckerson

“A cavalcade of Sherman, three generations, no medicine, just charm, and one or two genuine surprises...to demonstrate that the legacy lives on – ‘Music of the Spheres’ by Robert J. Sherman (given a real sheen by Stuart Matthew Price). I want to hear that again, as I do ‘The Whistle Tune’ from Busker Alley.”

Bargaintheatreland

"Something magical happened at St James Theatre – it was a night of revelation, emotion and sheer joy."

Musical Theatre Review

"I predict a great future for A Spoonful of Sherman. Don’t miss this great cast!"

The Public Reviews

“A delightful way to spend a couple of hours - great fun."

Leighton Buzzard Observer

“Walt Disney may have built a magical ‘toon empire but it was the Sherman Brothers who gave the mouse maestro his voice. A Spoonful of Sherman is a night of pure indulgence.”

Stagey Secrets

“Truly scrumptious. The overwhelming power of their music is inescapable.”
